It is almost 70 years since the first great Auckland Air Show which was hosted at Mangere Airport 29-31 January 1966 and over 200,000 people attended!.
And so, we believe that it’s about time another really, really exciting Aviation Event was hosted in Auckland
Auckland Air Races!
The origins of the “Auckland Air Race” event, stretches back 60 years to the very first
“Air and Water Show” held in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1958!
That event has been held annually for the past SIXTY YEARS and is still the
largest event of it’s kind in the USA. Around 2 million people attend this weekend event
every year -that surely attests to it’s huge entertainment appeal and commercial success!
AND NOW HERE IN NEW ZEALAND………….AUCKLAND AIR RACES…….
at the fantastic location on Takapuna Beachfront! This venue provides a magnificent “Race Track” over the water together with all the exciting amenities of a very diverse choice of Restaurants, Cafes, Bars and The Shopping!
The beach is over a kilometre long providing for magical viewing of the whole racing programme. The Race Course is set out with “Floating Race Pylons” to form a series of “Air Gates” along the beachfront. This provides for a challenging course for the Pilots to navigate through all the Pylons at incredible speeds! The “Race Course Start Gate” together with the “Finish Line” are both positioned midpoint along the beachfront to maximise the spectator experience.
Air Racing has become hugely popular around the world…..with races on the Danube River in Budapest, on the Hudson River in New York and the Thames River in London……and on now TAKAPUNA BEACHFRONT in Auckland, New Zealand!
There is no one single entity but rather a combination from number of community groups, together with businesses from a wide spectrum of industries, who are supporting this innovative major event. Perhaps most importantly are the legions of individuals and families, who have already confirmed their expression of support for this event.
